As the first leader of Tuskegee Institute right here in Alabama, his focus on vocational training and self-reliance continues to influence how we approach education today. He didn’t just manage the school; he built it from the ground up—literally. Booker T. Washington also partnered with Julius Rosenwald to construct over 5,000 schools, shops, and teacher homes for African American children across the south.

At Lanett City Schools, we believe that understanding our history paves the way for our future. Today, we are proud to highlight the incredible African American educators and visionaries who fought for equality and excellence in the classroom.
Their contributions didn't just change schools; they changed the world. This week would like to highlight Mary McLeod Bethune.
A daughter of former slaves who became a world-renowned educator and founded Bethune-Cookman University. She proved that "love of learning" is a superpower.

Attendance will follow the regular daily schedule, and all bus transportation will operate on its normal routes. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a smooth and productive school day!
